DESCRIPTION:Men and women 16+\nAll creeds welcome \nLet’s make new friends and explore Mid City Los Angeles through Dust and Tribe’s first ever urban meetup! \nWe will start our adventure at Owl Creek Books\, a haven for rare and first edition book lovers. There’s no better way to whet our appetites for local history than with the smell of these musty tomes! \nFrom there\, we make our way to 27th Street Bakery to try some of their bean pies. If there is an original Muslim American food\, it has to be the bean pie\, created by African-American Muslims in the 1930s! The bakery itself has been around since 1956. \nFinally\, we will gather for the Friday congregational prayers at Masjid Bilal Islamic Center\, the first identifiable large mainstream Islamic community in Los Angeles. Before they branched off\, the founders were part of a Nation of Islam temple established by Malcolm X\, may God’s mercy be upon him. If we are lucky\, we might even run into some elders who can tell us a bit of firsthand history. \nCarpooling highly recommended! Parking in Los Angeles can be a problem. \nOld books\, bean pie\, and a farewell prayer at an historic Islamic landmark. DESCRIPTION:All ages welcome\nAll creeds welcome \nCome join us as we look for the new moon of Rajab\, marking the seventh month of the Islamic lunar year\, insha Allah! \nReceive the coy and delightful crescent with your brothers and sisters! \nWe will meet at the Moon Tree in San Luis Obispo for what will be our most ambitious sighting event ever. You’ll need your headlamps and warm\, wind-resistant jackets because we’ll be hiking nearby Cerro San Luis\, a local peak that promises an unobstructed view of beautiful Morro Bay. It’s all uphill\, and if that isn’t challenging enough\, we’ll be descending after dark. \nFeel free to bring snacks. We might have some of our own to share.
