SUMMARY:D&T Grrrl! The Earthblood Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Women 16+ \nAll creeds welcome \nAdventure Score: 2 \nThe new moon of Sha’ban approaches\, and Dust and Tribe is calling out to women everywhere. \nDeep within Death Valley\, in the desert once known to the indigenous people as Tümpisa for the rich deposits of red ochre found there\, an oasis beckons. This is the land of the Pa Niwintsi\, the “water people” and the namesake of the Panamint Springs area where you will set up camp with your sisters for three nights and three days of reverent adventure. \nDiscover waterfalls and breathtaking vistas that change color with the movement of the sun. Witness dark\, bejewelled skies\, the like of which you can scarcely imagine. Explore abandoned settlements and the ruined operations of foolish men who once tried to tame the wilderness. Learn from their folly and recognize in the vast and undulating landscape the majesty and rigor of our Creator. \nYou and your fellow nomads will gather on Friday evening\, binding together in clans of four\, each woman assuming a critical role on behalf of all. Coyote\, Spoon Keeper\, Sage Burner\, and Tale Weaver- clan work is how you will reveal the hidden treasures each of you bring to the desert. For all the awe the landscape offers\, there is nothing so magnificent as the heart of a believer witnessing therein the Hand of God. \nThe Earthblood Gathering is an homage to the people who saw in the abundant red ochre of Tümpisa the very heart of creation. It is an invitation to find God in the wild and to nurture the relationships that will bring us ever closer to the Divine. \nCOVID-19: We are committed to keeping all participants healthy through smaller groups and the implementation of rigorous medical pre-screening. Once gathered\, social distancing and the wearing of masks will neither be enforced nor discouraged. \nTents\, sleep kits (sleeping bag and pad)\, and halal meals provided. \nTransportation is not included. Carpooling is encouraged and Dust and Tribe will assist in coordinating this with registered participants\, insha Allah. \nBook your spot with a $100 non-refundable deposit. \n\n \nQuestions? SUMMARY:D&T Grrrl!/D&T Gents: Bioluminescent Kayak-Camping in Tomales Bay
DESCRIPTION:Men and Women 17+* \nAll creeds welcome \nAdventure Score: 3 \n*This is a parallel program with separate and remote camps for men and women. \nWhile within the physical capabilities of most\, this expedition is highly technical and may require gear expenditures in addition to your registration fee. \nHome of the Coast Miwok people\, Tomales Bay embodies the rugged and chaotic beauty of existence itself. \nThe wind and tides sculpt the surrounding bluffs even as they challenge the adventurer with heave and spray. Twenty feet below\, tectonic plates along either side of the San Andreas Fault slip ever so slowly past one another on their way to eventual cataclysm. \nPaddling along the western shore will put us within view of native eel grass\, otters\, jellyfish\, leopard sharks\, and all manner of sea birds riding the currents of air as they hunt and court. The surrounding grasslands are considered among the most biologically diverse regions on earth. Therein can be found tule elk\, black bear\, weasels\, raccoons\, bats\, and beavers. \nAnd you will sleep among them\, if you choose to sleep. \nBecause on moonless nights\, there is magic in the water. \nWe have timed this adventure to coincide with the new moon of Dhu al-Qa’dah when the sky is darkest. The brave among us are invited back into the inky water to experience the miracle of bioluminescence\, the flashing of organic light from the tiniest of animals as they shimmer in response to our movement. \nStars above and stars below\, you will be as you once were: suspended\, floating in a black womb of wonder and majesty. \nThese marvels are guarded by rigors that must be overcome\, and few will make the effort. Read on to determine if you will be among them. \nIncluded: \n\nPre-trip lodging\, meals\, and transport to/from D&T Camp One (if flying into Sacramento airport 5/18- limited to 4 persons)\nThree days and two nights of camping in Tomales Bay\nPaddles and flotation vests\nTandem kayak and one dry bag for every two participants\nPortable toilet and privacy tent for men (vault toilets will be available for women)\nItinerary\, packing list\, and personalized assistance with logistics\nCarpool coordination (on-site parking limited)\nOne male and one female wilderness first-aid certified guide\nCommemorative D&T keepsakes to honor our time together\nNew friends and a lifetime of memories!\n \nYou are responsible for your food\, water (one gallon/day)\, clothing (including swimwear)\, tent\, sleep kit\, and cooking/mess supplies. \nDue to the space and weight restrictions of your tandem kayak\, you must be able to fit all of your clothing\, food\, and mess kits into a daypack. \nWetsuits are highly recommended\, though not absolutely necessary. A limited number of wetsuits may be available for rent on the day of departure. \nTents\, sleeping bags\, and sleeping pads should be sized for backpacking. Rental options may be available at your local REI. You can also explore home-delivered rentals through Moosejaw and Outdoors Geek. \nLimited rentals are also available through Dust and Tribe. \nExtra dry bags are available for rent at Blue Waters Kayaking. \nSome items like tents and stoves can be shared. As part of our commitment to coordinating a smooth trip\, minimizing unnecessary expenses\, and building group camaraderie\, Dust and Tribe will work to assess group needs and advise accordingly. \nParticipants should feel confident in their ability to paddle for up to two hours. There will be opportunities for rests and breaks. Although flotation vests will be provided\, participants would ideally be able to swim. At a minimum\, participants must not be prone to panicking in the water. \nAs mentioned above\, women will have access to vault toilets. Men will have a more rigorous experience with a longer paddle and no bathroom facilities (portable toilet and privacy tent will be provided). Campfires on the beach are permitted\, provided we are all committed to maximum efficiency in order to allow room on our kayaks for firewood. \nCOVID-19: We are committed to keeping all participants healthy through smaller groups and the implementation of rigorous medical pre-screening. Once gathered\, social distancing and the wearing of masks will neither be enforced nor discouraged. \nBook your spot with a $100 deposit that is fully refundable 30 days prior to our trip (refund deadline Wednesday 4/19/2023). Refunds will not be offered after the aforementioned date except in cases of a documented or suspected COVID infection within 14 days of our event. \nFull-refunds will also be offered in the event of inclement weather severe enough to pose a risk to participants. \nWe’ve got room for 12 men and 14 women. Please book using the appropriate button: \n\n \n\n\n \nDon’t want to hassle with food? We’re happy to put together a 2000 calorie/day vegetarian meal bundle to get you through the weekend. The bundle includes pasta and quinoa-based entrees\, oatmeal\, granola\, and lots of chocolate\, nut-butters\, and fat-rich coconut strips to fuel your adventure. \n\n\n \nQuestions? Leave a comment below or send us a message through our Contact Page. \nSigned up? You are an inspiration and a comment from you could be just the bit of encouragement someone else needs to come along!

SUMMARY:D&T Kin: Wheels of Fire!
DESCRIPTION:Open to men\, women\, and children (all ages) \nAll creeds welcome \nAdventure Score: 2 \nThe word “volcano” derives from the Ancient Roman worship of Vulcan\, with whom they associated both the destructive and regenerative powers of fire. \nWe know better. \nGod is One\, and His attributes encompass the mighty and the merciful. It is He who created the volcanoes\, portals of infernal brimstone from which the Earth belches and exhales both beauty and devastation. And this summer\, we are taking our families over 1200 miles north along a Trail of Fire\, tracking the volcanic history of the Great Pacific Northwest. \nWe’ve got room for 50 people\, and you’re invited. \nRegistration deadline 6/8/2023! \nWe start our trip the morning of Saturday\, July 8th at D&T Camp One in Placerville\, CA. Feel free to swing by the day before. Just let us know you’re coming and we’ll make sure you’ve got a place to stay and a hot meal to tuck you in. \nOur first stop is Lassen Volcanic National Park where we will spend a day and a night exploring the geothermal activity of the dynamic and shifting landscape. \nThe morning of July 9th will see us in the city of Redding for coffee and breakfast before heading to the lovely town of Dunsmuir\, where the water is reputed to be the cleanest on earth. \nFrom there we head out for a day hiking the mystical slopes of Mount Shasta\, an active volcano believed by the early Klamath people to be inhabited by the spirit chief Skell. The area continues to entice spiritual seekers of every disposition and we will camp among them. \nWe’ll need our rest\, because on July 10th we continue north to Crater Lake where we will spend the day along the rim of the deepest freshwater lake in America. The brave among us may decide to slip into the water for a quick swim. Anglers- feel free to wet your lines. No license required! \nWe’ll spend the night along Diamond Lake in Oregon’s Umpqua National Forest before heading over to Silver Falls State Park on July 11th for a day spent hiking the Trail of Ten Falls before setting up camp. \nJuly 12th is our city day (and perhaps our most ambitious) with a few hours earmarked for trips into Portland and Seattle to stock up on supplies and sample their legendary coffees before squeezing in a side trip to Mount Saint Helens\, perhaps the most active and destructive of all the volcanoes on our trip. \nIt will be late by the time we make it to our group campsite along the banks of Goodell Creek in Washington’s North Cascades National Park. The volcanoes here are dormant\, but we will be a witness to their geological legacy as we take in the scope and the magnitude of what has been described as the American Alps. \nThe morning of July 13th will see us\, God willing\, exploring the North Cascades for a full day before settling in for our last night together where we hope to honor the adventure through one last shared meal and a closing reflection before parting ways the morning of July 14th. \nIncluded: \n\nOvernight accommodations and meal at Dust and Tribe Camp One (optional)\nOvernight camping in Lassen\, Shasta\, Umpqua National Forest\, Silver Falls State Park\, and the North Cascades\nPoint-by-point itinerary\, packing list\, and personalized assistance with logistics\nCommemorative D&T Kin keepsake to honor our time together\nNew friends and a lifetime of memories!\n\nYou are responsible for your family’s food\, transportation\, clothing\, and gear (limited rentals are available). \nPlease note: \nThis is a one-way itinerary from Placerville to the North Cascades National Park. \nPlease plan your trip home accordingly. \nThe adventure fee is $120/per participant over two years of age. \nYour 50% deposit is refundable up until 11:59 pm on Friday April 28th\, 2023. \nRegistration for this event is closed \nQuestions? Send us a message through our Contact Page \nSigned up? You are an inspiration and a comment from you could be just the bit of encouragement someone else needs to come along!

SUMMARY:D&T Treks: Velma Lakes
DESCRIPTION:Men and women 13+ \nAll creeds welcome \nAdventure Score: 2 \nLake Tahoe’s Desolation Wilderness is an alpine wonderland. Massive conifers stab out from great walls of granite. Stony basins hold pristine lakes\, refreshing pools of azure wherein dart brook and rainbow trout. This is world-class backpacking. \nWe’re not going far\, but we are going hard. It’s only 5 miles to the Upper Velma Lake\, but make no mistake: you’ll work for it. \nThis is an out-and-back trail with lots of climbing and some brutal switchbacks\, but that’s just one day and we’ll need an early start to beat the summer heat. We know that with hardship there is ease\, and in this case the payoff is glorious. \nAt the end of all that work are some of the prettiest little lakes you ever will see and that’s where we’ll spend the next two nights\, God willing. We’ll explore\, swim\, fish (don’t forget your license!)\, and just take in the refreshment of radiant sunshine\, clean air\, and cool water. \nWe’re opening this adventure up to some of our younger participants with the understanding that they have the maturity to take direction and behave responsibly. And to make the trip easier for those coming from a distance\, we are including an overnight stay Friday August 4th at D&T Camp One in Placerville\, about 1.5 hours from the trailhead. \nIncluded: \n\nOvernight accommodations and meal at Dust and Tribe Camp One (optional)\nTwo nights of camping alongside the Velma Lakes\nPoint-by-point itinerary\, packing list\, and personalized assistance with logistics\nCommemorative D&T keepsake to honor our time together\nNew friends and a lifetime of memories!\n\nYou are responsible for your family’s food\, transportation\, clothing\, and gear (limited rentals are available). \nCOVID-19: We are committed to keeping all participants healthy through smaller groups and the implementation of rigorous medical pre-screening. SUMMARY:D&T Grom: Surf Camp w/Kooks and Kahunas
DESCRIPTION:Men 16+ \nAll creeds welcome \nAdventure Score: 1 \nDust and Tribe started in California. Many of us have lived our whole lives with the Pacific Ocean as our playground. SUMMARY:D&T Tours: #VanLife Immersion Experience Fall 2023
DESCRIPTION:Men and women 18+\nAll creeds welcome\nAdventure Score: 2 \nCalling all aspiring digital nomads! \nWhat if life was a working vacation? Is vanlife really just one instagrammable moment after another\, or is there more to it? Is it really possible to combine your love for the outdoors with your need to earn a living? \nDust and Tribe invites you to a fall reprieve ideal for the remote worker to get their dose of adventure in the outdoors while still being able to log work hours each weekday. After this adventure you will almost certainly find out if vanlife is for you. \nJoin us as we soak up the Eastern Sierra in all of its splendor\, exploring an amazing array of lakes\, alpine meadows\, glacial valleys\, hot springs\, and other unique geological features in a meandering trip from Northern to Southern California over the course of six days and five nights. \nWe’ve got two fully loaded vans ready to roll\, one for men and one for women. Each vehicle is outfitted with a full kitchen\, two double beds\, toilet\, and shower. We’ve put together an itinerary that allows for predictable reception the duration of the work week\, God willing\, while also allowing those with more flexibility plenty of adventure time. \nDay 1 (Friday\, October 6: Placerville) \nThis is our arrival day. Make your way to either the Sacramento or San Francisco airports and we’ll pick you up for our evening rendezvous at D&T Camp One in Placerville. We’ll get you settled before sitting down to a hosted communal meal. \nDay 2 (Saturday\, October 7: Hope Valley) \nWe’ll enjoy breakfast at Camp One before heading into beautiful Hope Valley just south of Lake Tahoe. We’ll spend some time hiking and exploring before hopping back into the vans for a short drive to some nearby (and geologically stunning) hot springs before boondocking for the night. \nDay 3 (Sunday\, October 8: Yosemite) \nWhat vanlife experience would be complete without a trip through Yosemite National Park? The ambitious among us will set their sights on reaching what might possibly be the best view in the park from one of the most unique trails in Yosemite\, bagging Cloud’s Rest for 360 degree panoramic views of Half Dome\, Yosemite Valley\, and Little Yosemite. Be warned: this is a 12-mile roundtrip hike packing all the adrenaline of Half Dome without the danger of the cables and crowds. \nNot ready for all that? \nThose down for more casual adventure can enjoy a leisurely stroll through Tuolumne Meadows\, taking in views of Half Dome and Cloud’s Rest just steps away from our vans where we can spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the beach at Tenaya Lake. We’ll all meet back at the vans before dark\, perhaps camping in Lee Vining or boondocking near Mono Lake. \nDay 4 (Monday\, October 9: Mammoth) \nWorking? No problem. We’ll get you into Mammoth nice and early to set up in one of their cafes. Those with the day off will make the hike to Devils Postpile and Rainbow Falls. God willing\, we’ll all circle up after the work day to unwind in the wilderness before boondocking adjacent to some local hot springs\, insha Allah. \nDay 5 (Tuesday\, October 10: Bishop) \nWe’ll set the working folks up in one of Bishop’s cafes as those of us with the day off explore the marvelous environs of Lake Sabrina followed by an afternoon trip to Manzanar\, the infamous Japanese internment camp. Once all back together\, well enjoy the sun setting behind Mount Whitney\, boondocked in the rock-climbing Mecca of the Alabama Hills. \nDay 6 (Wednesday\, October 11: Lone Pine/Los Angeles) \nOur final day together! \nWe’ll leave the working folks to their breakfast in Lone Pine while the rest of us head to the famous Whitney Portal Store for a little fortification before our six-mile roundtrip hike to Lone Pine Lake. After that\, we’ll continue to our final destination\, the bustling metropolis of Los Angeles where we’ll share one final meal together before you catch your flights or otherwise make your way home. \nIncluded: \n\nOne night of accommodations\, a hosted dinner\, and breakfast at D&T Camp One in Placerville\, CA\nSix days and five nights of cruising\, camping\, and working (optional!) along Highway 395\nObservance of all Islamic prayers and daily guided reflections\nPoint-by-point itinerary\, packing list\, and personalized assistance with logistics\nWilderness first-aid certified adventure guide\nCommemorative D&T keepsakes to honor our time together\nNew friends and a lifetime of memories!\n\nYou are responsible for your food while on the road and transportation to and from Sacramento/San Francisco/Los Angeles. Groceries and meal prep will be done in collaboration with other participants. Please limit personal items to a single backpack. \nBe advised: We are opening up more spots than are actually available to allow for screening and preliminary discussion before committing participants to nearly a week in a van with others. We are invested in a high-quality experience for all and recognize that the potential stressors of close quarters and possible work obligations will require extra consideration on our part. At a bare minimum\, we need to ensure that the gender of drivers and participants are matched. \nIn order to be considered\, secure your spot with a $290 deposit that will be immediately refunded if logistics do not allow for your participation. Once your spot has been confirmed\, there will be no refunds. \n\n \nQuestions? SUMMARY:D&T Grom: Surf Camp w/Kooks and Kahunas
DESCRIPTION:Men 16+ \nAll creeds welcome \nAdventure Score: 2 \nJoin us for our annual surf camp! \nDust and Tribe started in California. Many of us have lived our whole lives with the Pacific Ocean as our playground. But we’ve spent a lifetime on the sand. \nWe’re going to change that with the help of Kooks and Kahunas\, our local Muslim surf club. These aren’t just guys chasing waves. They are a committed group of spiritual seekers who understand that\, for all of the ocean’s power and immensity\, each wave that rolls in might hold the ride of a lifetime for exactly one person. \nThe universe is a big place. But you’re in it and there’s a reason. And sometimes you just need to suit up and float in the darkness for awhile before any of it makes sense. \nThere’s a whole lot more to surfing than surfing\, bro. \nSaturday is our first day at surf camp. We’ll get ourselves sorted and learn about one another over dinner. After a night’s rest\, we’ll have breakfast\, handle our predawn prayers\, and hit the beach for some safety instruction and basic preliminaries including board selection\, waxing\, and where to attach that pesky leg leash (hint: your leg). Then it’s into the water where we learn to find the “sweet spot” for our paddle-out and some practice belly-boarding in. You’ll be paired with a mentor who\, although not a formal instructor\, is passionate about surfing and invested in sharing that love with you. \nFrom there it’s back to the sand where we’ll practice our pop-ups until we’re feeling confident enough to try standing in the water. \nWe’ll have two nights and two days on the beach. After the first morning\, the rest of our time together is about practice and the camaraderie that comes out of learning together. \nBest case scenario\, we show up kooks and come home kahunas. Our surf camp is very beginner friendly! \nBut don’t count on it. Better to focus on the good times we’ll have. With God’s help and permission\, we can pretty well guarantee that. \nIncluded: \n\nTwo nights of camping at San Mateo Campground\nSurfboard and wetsuit\nSurf mentoring by the Kooks and Kahunas Muslim Surf Club\nBreakfast\, dinner\, and light refreshments (you’re on your own for lunch)\nPoint-by-point itinerary\, packing list\, and personalized assistance with logistics\nCommemorative D&T keepsake to honor our time together\nNew friends and a lifetime of memories!\n\nYou are responsible for your transportation\, clothing\, and gear (limited rentals are available). \n Those with their own board and wetsuit will receive an $80 discount upon balance fulfillment. \nBook your spot with a 50% deposit ($190) that is fully refundable up to 60 days prior to our trip (refund deadline Monday 7/16/2024). Refunds will not be offered after the aforementioned date except in cases of a documented or suspected COVID infection within 14 days of our event. \nSOLD OUT.\nPlease reach out through our Contact Page to be added to our waitlist. \n\n \nQuestions? SUMMARY:D&T Goat: Beginner's Backpacking Adventure with Baby Goats!
DESCRIPTION:Men and women 16+\nAll creeds welcome\nAdventure Score: 2 \nLake Tahoe’s Desolation Wilderness is an alpine wonderland. Massive conifers stab out from great walls of granite and stony basins hold refreshing pools of azure filled with brook and rainbow trout. \nThis is world-class backpacking\, an out-and-back trail with a gentle climb on the way in and virtually all downhill on the way out. This makes it perfect for the beginning packer\, and that’s why we’re taking four of our baby Alpine goats\, our packgoats-in-training! \nThis will be one of their first conditioning hikes of the season and we’ll need your help leading\, feeding\, and just generally loving on these adorable and hardworking critters. Each participant will be assigned one baby goat for at least one day\, allowing for a bonding and wilderness husbandry experience like no other. \nThese are our most affectionate and personable little goats\, handpicked from the D&T Camp One herd\, and they will leave quite the impression\, God willing. But this will also be one of their longest outings to date and they will absolutely need your guidance and support. \nWe’re not going far and we’re taking our time. \nSaturday morning starts early with the predawn prayer and our caravan to the trailhead where we’ll complete our gear check and begin our three-mile trek to Twin Lakes. \nWith our loaded packs and the modest elevation gain\, we’ll get our hearts pumping\, but not to worry. Our little goats will want to take their time nibbling the forage along the away\, allowing for plenty of rest and a meandering pace. \nAt the end of our hike are some of the prettiest little lakes you ever will see and that’s where we’ll spend the next two nights\, God willing. We’ll explore\, swim\, scramble\, and just take in the refreshment of radiant sunshine\, clean air\, and cool water\, insha Allah. \nAnd to make the trip easier for those coming from a distance\, we are including an optional overnight stay and home-cooked meal Friday October 4th at D&T Camp One in Placerville\, about 1.5 hours from the trailhead. \nIncluded: \n\nOvernight accommodations and meal at Dust and Tribe Camp One on Friday 10/4 (optional)\nTwo nights of camping in or around Twin Lakes\nPoint-by-point itinerary\, packing list\, and personalized assistance with logistics\nCommemorative D&T keepsake to honor our time together\nBABY GOATS!!!\nProfessional portrait capturing you and your goat companions\nNew friends and a lifetime of memories!\n\nYou are responsible for your food\, transportation\, clothing\, and gear (limited rentals are available). \nYour trip facilitators are Luke Frobase and wilderness docent Andrea Guaschino. \nBook your spot with a 50% deposit that is fully refundable up to 30 days prior to our trip (refund deadline Thursday 9/5/2024). \nSOLD OUT.\nPlease reach out through our Contact Page to be added to our waitlist. \n\n \nQuestions? SUMMARY:D&T Meet: Old Books and Bean Pies
DESCRIPTION:Men and women 16+\nAll creeds welcome \nLet’s make new friends and explore Mid City Los Angeles through Dust and Tribe’s first ever urban meetup! \nWe will start our adventure at Owl Creek Books\, a haven for rare and first edition book lovers. There’s no better way to whet our appetites for local history than with the smell of these musty tomes! \nFrom there\, we make our way to 27th Street Bakery to try some of their bean pies. If there is an original Muslim American food\, it has to be the bean pie\, created by African-American Muslims in the 1930s! The bakery itself has been around since 1956. \nFinally\, we will gather for the Friday congregational prayers at Masjid Bilal Islamic Center\, the first identifiable large mainstream Islamic community in Los Angeles. Before they branched off\, the founders were part of a Nation of Islam temple established by Malcolm X\, may God’s mercy be upon him. If we are lucky\, we might even run into some elders who can tell us a bit of firsthand history. \nCarpooling highly recommended! Parking in Los Angeles can be a problem. \nOld books\, bean pie\, and a farewell prayer at an historic Islamic landmark. Kind of the best Friday ever! \nYour host for this adventure is Makeda \nThere is no fee for this event\, but clicking the registration button will allow us to optimize our hospitality\, insha Allah. \n\n \nQuestions? SUMMARY:D&T Grind: Primal California Backpacking 2025
DESCRIPTION:Men and women 16+ \nAll creeds welcome. \nAdventure Score: 3 \nThree days and thirty miles\, backpacking with your brothers and sisters in faith will make the going easier\, but it will still be a grind. \nThere is no more iconic landscape than the rolling\, verdant grasslands of California. Long before gold was discovered\, the honeyed hues of an oak-studded hillside were enough to cement California’s aurulent reputation; for it is the Golden State. \nExcept in the winter. In this time\, much of California is a misty emerald. \nAnd we invite you to savor this damp and cold jewel for three days and two nights in California’s Henry W. Coe State Park. \nD&T Grind is our winter coed backpacking adventure where we ask men and women to face adversity together. Cold temperatures\, wet weather\, swollen creeks\, impassable routes\, long miles\, and steep climbs are only a few of the challenges we will embrace as we rediscover what it means to be sisters and brothers in faith. \nThis is a far cry from the lecture halls and temple sermons. \nThis is lived experience where all that you are will become apparent to yourself and others\, coaxed into the dim winter light by the rigors of novelty and fatigue. \nGrind will humiliate the arrogant and reward the selfless. Against the backdrop of wet earth and grey sky\, our insignificance is an undeniable mandate for the humble to assist one another and press on. Even so\, the haughtiness within us may rue the day\, grumbling for a return to the small\, safe spaces that affirm our sense of grandeur and control. \nGrind is a lesson. Grind is a teacher. SUMMARY:D&T Gents: Ice Fishing at Caples Lake
DESCRIPTION:Men 16+\nAll creeds welcome\nAdventure Score: 2 \n  \nDo the thing that nobody else will: join us as we freeze for the glory of fish! \nYes\, it will be cold. Perhaps even perilous. A lot of things have to go right and that’s in God’s Hands\, so we’re definitely not making any promises. But there are some monsters in Caples Lake: rainbow and cutthroat trout and even some massive Mackinaws. \nYou’ll have to decide whether or not you’re ready to hunt them. \nIf you are\, you’ll be with us drilling into the ice\, rigging our poles\, and finding ways to keep warm as we tempt the leviathans plying the depths below. \nThey call it fishing and not “catching” for a reason. Sometimes you go home with nothing but memories\, but we’ve got some consolation prizes just in case. \nAfter your day on the lake\, you can look forward to a return to Camp One where we will have a warm fire and a home-cooked meal waiting for you. If you want to test your winter camping skills\, you’re welcome to pitch a tent outside near our fire pit. If you’d prefer something a bit more cozy with flushing toilets\, well then you’re welcome to stay inside the main house with us. \nWhat man doesn’t like options? \nTo make the trip easier for those coming from a distance\, we are including an optional overnight stay and home-cooked meal Friday February 7th at Camp One in Placerville\, about 1.5 hours from Caples Lake. \nIncluded: \n\nTwo nights of camping with dinner and light breakfast at D&T Camp One\nPoint-by-point itinerary\, packing list\, and personalized assistance with logistics\nAll of the equipment necessary for a full day of ice-fishing\nProfessional portraits for anyone that lands a fish\nNew friends and a lifetime of memories!\n\nYou are responsible for your packed lunch while on the lake\, transportation\, and appropriate clothing/footwear. \nYour trip facilitators are Luke Frobase and Ahmed Pierstorff. \nTrip will cancel if fewer than 6 registered participants by January 25th\, 2025. \nBook your spot with a $100 deposit that is refundable up to 30 days prior to our trip (refund deadline Thursday 1/9/2025). \n\n \nQuestions? SUMMARY:D&T Build: Farm Skills Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Men and women 13+\nAll creeds welcome\nAdventure Score: 2 \nIt’s been a long winter. \nChores get put off on account of the snow and wind and rain. But the sunshine and longer days are starting to dry us out and it’s finally time to put our backs into some long-overdue farm work\, insha Allah. \nNestled in the forested foothills of the eastern sierra\, the Dust and Tribe Camp One homestead always has work for us to do and we would love some help! \nHaving you here will make the work more enjoyable. We’ll get through it quicker\, we’ll get to meet wonderful people\, and we will all learn something new. \nBut maybe you don’t have a lot of experience with farm work? Fret not! If you’re willing to learn\, we’re willing to teach. \nHere’s some of what’s on the agenda: \n\nPrepping garden beds\nConstructing compost bins\nCleaning livestock shelters\nTrenching for drainage\nClearing brush\nInstalling paddock gates\n\nWe’ll instruct you on how to use the necessary tools (pickaxes\, shovels\, digging bars\, chainsaws\, hand drills\, levels\, etc.) and we will have safety gear on-hand (goggles and first-aid). \nWe also have all of the equipment required to get the jobs done\, but if we are blessed with a large turnout\, we would appreciate you bringing the relevant tools for the work you would like to do\, insha Allah. \nPlease bring your own gloves\, water bottle\, snacks\, and closed-toed shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. \nWork-days are scheduled 10 am – 2 pm\, after which we will host a lovely farm-style lunch featuring the eggs and meat that we are blessed to harvest on-site. People wanting to come early\, stay late\, or sleep over may do so once we’ve had a discussion to learn more about how best to accommodate you\, insha Allah. \nDue to the inherent risks of farm work and the sloping\, forested layout of the Camp One homestead which does not allow for supervision\, children under 13 are not welcome. \nIncluded: \n\nFarm work instruction\, mentorship\, and supervision\nHalal\, farm-style lunch using locally sourced meat and eggs\nSafety equipment and registered nurse on-site\nNetworking opportunities with other like-minded people\nMountain air and plenty of exercise\nNew friends and a lifetime of memories!\n\nRegistration is free for this event. Unfavorable weather will cancel. \nPlease select the date that you would like to help from the drop-down menu below so that we know who is coming and when\, God willing. \n\n\n \nQuestions? SUMMARY:D&T Camp: Sea Kayaking and Coastal Foraging in Morro Bay
DESCRIPTION:Men and women 16+\nAll creeds welcome\nAdventure Score: 2 \nSome say the ocean is the origin of life\, but since our initial nine months in the comparable salinity of the amniotic sac\, have we taken the time to really immerse ourselves in her? \nWe should! \nJoin us as we head back into the primordial soup of California’s Central Coast for a weekend of camping\, kayaking\, and coastal foraging! \nWe’ve been blessed with a fabulous spot along Morro Strand State Beach to stage this adventure\, giving us access to both open water and tidal estuaries for our paddling as well as abundant hiking and exploration opportunities through shifting sand dunes and teeming tidepools. \nFriday is our arrival day with a plan to make camp in the afternoon before setting out for our first coastal hike. \nSaturday morning has us on the water\, paddling our kayaks through the light swells of protected waterways. SUMMARY:D&T Treks: Lost Coast Backpacking
DESCRIPTION:Men and women 16+ \nAll creeds welcome. \nAdventure Score: 3 \nSpend Memorial Day weekend where the forest meets the sea! \nGod willing\, we’ll share five days and four nights together in the blush of spring along one of the most remote areas of Northern California\, the legendary Lost Coast. \nGetting there is a journey all its own. Considered too costly for state highway or county road builders to establish routes through the area\, this is the most undeveloped and remote portion of California’s coast. \nBut don’t let that intimidate you. Five hours from San Francisco and nearly 12 hours from Los Angeles\, you can just think of it as a fabulous roadtrip with a backpacking adventure thrown in for good measure. \nAnd if the promise of sleeping in redwood groves\, breezy ocean overlooks\, and combing black sand beaches gets your heart pounding like the waves of the Great Pacific\, you don’t want to miss this. \nWe’ll spend our first day (Thursday) staging our arrival camp and getting our parking and transportation arrangements squared away. We’ll hit the trail early Friday morning\, God willing\, averaging between 4-8 miles daily as we make our way north along the southern portion of the Lost Coast trail. With God’s help and permission\, we plan to exit the trail well before noon on Monday morning in time to get back on the road for the long trip home. \nIt should be noted that the views won’t be the only thing taking your breath away. It gets easier\, but the first day is a doozy with some impressive elevation gain. We know that with hardship there is ease and between climbs we’ll have plenty of opportunities to relax in secluded coves\, dip our toes in the ocean\, and marvel at the ancient redwoods that have stood here for centuries. \nWe think you can do it. You’ll really have no choice once you’re on the trail\, and if you are questioning your abilities\, book early and start conditioning. It’s not hard to improve our strength and endurance. Much more important is our sense of determination and commitment. \nThat’s the magic of an adventure like this. Cut off from all of our creature comforts and in the middle of California’s most remote stretch of coastline\, we’ll only have what we’ve brought and one another. We’re forced into growth\, community\, and a revitalized perspective. \nWe start helping each other now. \nIncluded: \n\nPoint-by-point itinerary\, packing list\, and personalized assistance with logistics\nAll necessary permits and parking fees\nFour nights of backcountry camping\nWilderness first-aid certified adventure guide\nDaily check-in message to loved ones via satellite transmitter\nNightly circle reflections\nCommemorative D&T keepsakes to honor our time together\nNew friends and a lifetime of memories!\n\nYou are responsible for your food\, transportation\, clothing\, and gear (limited rentals are available). Interested participants should feel confident in their ability to carry 30 pounds of gear a distance of at least 10 miles. Backpacking experience will be helpful\, but is not required. We’ll coach you through anything you need to know\, insha Allah. \nYour trip facilitators are Amin\, Neda\, and Luke. \nTrip will cancel if fewer than 5 registered participants by Thursday 5/8/2025. \nInclement weather will not be grounds for either cancellation or refund except in cases of extreme severity. \nBook your spot with a $210 deposit that is refundable up to 30 days prior to our trip (refund deadline Tuesday 4/22/2025). \n\n \n \nDon’t want to hassle with food? We’re happy to put together a 2000 calorie/day vegetarian meal bundle to get you through the weekend. The bundle includes pasta and quinoa-based entrees\, oatmeal\, granola\, and lots of chocolate\, nut-butters\, and fat-rich coconut strips to fuel your adventure. \n\n\n \nQuestions? SUMMARY:D&T Goat: Backpacking Velma Lakes with Goats
DESCRIPTION:Men and women 13+ \nAll creeds welcome \nAdventure Score: 2 \nLake Tahoe’s Desolation Wilderness is an alpine wonderland of massive conifers and gorgeous\, stony pools of stunning blue refreshment. \nThis is world-class backpacking and we’re taking you along with six of our growing Alpine goats! \nThey’re getting stronger\, but they’re still young and we’ll need your help leading\, feeding\, and just generally loving on these adorable and hardworking critters. Each participant will be assigned one goat for at least one day\, allowing for a bonding and wilderness husbandry experience like no other. \nThese are our most affectionate and personable little goats\, handpicked from the D&T Camp One herd. They will leave quite the impression\, God willing\, but this will also be one of their longest outings to date and they will absolutely need your guidance and support. \nWe’re not going too far\, but we are going hard. It’s only 5 miles to the Upper Velma Lake\, but make no mistake: we’ll work for it. \nThis is an out-and-back trail with lots of climbing and some brutal switchbacks on the first day. We’ll need an early start to beat the summer heat. With goats! \nWe’re opening this adventure up to some of our younger participants with the understanding that they have the maturity to take direction and behave responsibly. And to make the trip easier for those coming from a distance\, we are including a free airport shuttle and overnight stay Friday June 27th at D&T Camp One in Placerville\, about 1.5 hours from the trailhead. \nIncluded: \n\nOvernight accommodations and meal at Dust and Tribe Camp One (optional)\nFree airport shuttle\nTwo nights of camping alongside the Velma Lakes\nPoint-by-point itinerary\, packing list\, and personalized assistance with logistics\nCommemorative D&T keepsake to honor our time together\nBABY GOATS!!!\nNew friends and a lifetime of memories!\n\nYou are responsible for your food\, transportation\, clothing\, and gear (limited rentals are available). \nBook your spot with a $190 deposit that is fully refundable up to 30 days prior to our trip (refund deadline Thursday 5/29/2025). \n\n \nDon’t want to hassle with food? We’re happy to put together a 2000 calorie/day vegetarian meal bundle to get you through the weekend. The bundle includes pasta and quinoa-based entrees\, oatmeal\, granola\, and lots of chocolate\, nut-butters\, and fat-rich coconut strips to fuel your adventure. \n\n\n  \nQuestions?
