DESCRIPTION:Join me and the wonderful crew from Ramadan Ready as we search the sky for the new moon of Dhu’l-Hijjah\, the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar year! \n \nThere is a fantastic celestial dance between the earth and moon so tightly choreographed that entire calendars can be built in anticipation of their movements. We’ll gather together to search for the new moon from a gorgeous coastal overlook in Ranchos Palos Verdes. Bring food to allow for a sunset picnic and\, conditions permitting\, we’ll spend some time reviewing the more recognizable summer constellations\, insha Allah. \nA moon-themed craft\, cookies\, and cocoa will be provided by Ramadan Ready. DESCRIPTION:our inaugural family adventure\nWe’re going rafting!\n \nDust and Tribe\, in collaboration with OARS\, brings you two days and 21 miles of whitewater fun along the South Fork of the American River! Steeped in Gold Rush history\, the American River is lined with oak and pine forests that tumble through the Sierra Nevada foothills\, creating rolling valleys and gorges which mirror the flows and rolling rapids of this classic California river. \nThis will be our first ever family adventure\, open to ages 8 and up. \nOn Sunday\, July 14th\, we’ll gather for a night under the stars at the OARS American River Outpost\, about an hour outside of Sacramento\, where we’ll enjoy: \n\n\n\nBeach access for swimming in the river\nBoth individual and group campsites\nFull men’s and women’s bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets\nRiverside camping (on a limited basis)\nGames\, including horseshoes\, volleyball\, and a life-size chess board\nEasy walking distance to local cafes\nNature trails\nFree WiFi\n\n\n\nOn the morning of Monday\, July 15th we’ll put into the river for five hours of whitewater fun\, breaking for lunch and setting up camp for a second night along the river’s edge. \nOn the morning of Tuesday\, July 16th we’ll take a shuttle to our next put-in for another three hours of roiling\, wet madness before ending the day back at the OARS Outpost. \nWe’ve negotiated a fantastic rate and dates that will allow for a private launch just for our group with scheduled prayer breaks. We’ll be responsible for bringing our own halal food and camping gear (rental options are available). \nThis adventure is closed to registration. DESCRIPTION:Join me and Ustadha Shereen Sabet of Splashgear as we explore the tide pools of Crystal Cove State Park! \nSun\, wind\, and the relentless churning of caustic salt water challenge the many inhabitants of these wonderful pools. We’ll gather together to learn about life in the intertidal zone and all of the special adaptations that living things must make to live under such extreme pressures. \nIn the interest of keeping things safe and fun\, we are limiting the total number of participants to 20 16 13. Due to extremely slippery surfaces\, many sharp rocks\, and the unpredictable nature of waves\, it is suggested that children in attendance be no less than seven years of age. \nBring some food and we’ll picnic afterward! \nThis event is being organized as a fundraiser for The Majlis.
