This Friday, you cash out.
Everything that you invested will be waiting for you on that dock. If, over these last two months you put time into getting to know one another, if you put time into collaborating with each other, if you made yourself available to help with meal planning, transportation, or gear-sharing, your sisters will be waiting for you.
If you prioritized other than the above, there is no doubt in my mind that you will still encounter friendly women. And fine, good things will blossom, God willing. The island is a crucible that will strengthen existing bonds, or else forge them anew.
It’s easy to understand this as a simple camping trip. For some of you, it will be exactly that. And a really good one, God willing, facilitated by perhaps the most talented naturalist in our area, Sister Sama.
But in reality, nothing is simple. Infinite complexity attends even the smallest particle of dust.
I have done what I can to shine a light on that complexity. On the surface, this blog allows you basic information about what to wear, what to carry, and what to eat. But the information was only ever offered as a suggestion.
Because it’s important that you recognize the entirety of your experience as a consequence of your choices. You signed up. You paid your fee. You pack what you wear and what you eat. You elect to participate or not participate in things as they unfold. You choose how you respond to the numerous unanticipated events that cannot be scripted or controlled.
This is why we choose the wilderness. It is a setting that forces us to trade complacency for humility and to release control in homage to trust. Those who participate in clan work are already experiencing the transition. They are warming in their compromise and cooperation. They are moving through the friction of personalities and perspectives. And my guess is, they are already having a good time.
Message your clan. Make sure everyone is OK. Make sure everyone knows how excited you are to make their acquaintance. Express what gratitude and love you have experienced. Clarify any misunderstandings.
Because this Friday, you cross the Rainbow Bridge. And you will only find what you have left.

Amen to that Br. Ahmad. Most eloquently put as usual and most thought provoking and inspiring and exciting. Thankyou for all your guidance and support. You do make a fantastic effort in this job.
It is you who inspires, Umm Rami! I am very excited for you and the rest of your tribe. I can’t wait to hear how it goes!
