I have the incredible fortune of living one mile from my local mosque. It’s the first time I’ve had the opportunity to walk regularly, should I choose, to that place of worship.
Of course, walking can itself be worship. This is true within the Islamic paradigm where we have the statements of our blessed Prophet advising us on the merits of intention and goodly use of our limbs.
“Verily actions are by their intentions, and one shall only have that which one intended.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “Anyone who purifies himself in his house and then goes to one of the houses of Allah to fulfill one of the obligations of Allah, one step removes an error and the other raises him a degree.” [Muslim]

And even outside of the Islamic faith, the benefits of walking are innumerable. I found this lovely little read from Harry J. Stead where he describes the walks he takes through his local woods:
Why Long Walks Will Change Your Life
