For men 18+
All creeds welcome.
Recognized by men of our way is the obligation to provide. It is a legacy we share with the indigenous men of California, many of whom would present their initial kills to their tribe as a declaration of their maturity and eligibility for marriage.
Modernity has changed the manner in which we provide. As we settle into our roles as wage-earners, we adapt to our new environment and lose essential faculties in the process. Our vision is weaker. We no longer understand what we are smelling. Our ears have lost their sensitivity and we move through the land with loud, heavy feet.
In addition, we have become completely disconnected from the sources of our food, trading this crucial awareness for convenience and subsidizing the horrors of unconscionable agribusiness with every bite of store-bought meat.
We’re inviting a handful of men to reconsider all of this.
For the first time ever, Dust and Tribe is offering a guided hunt. We will establish a group camp near Bakersfield, California. You are responsible to provide your own gun, camping gear, and food. We’ll show you where the birds are and how to harvest, dress, and prepare them.
Your first step is to take your online California Hunter Safety Course.
Once completed, you will need to pay for your Resident Hunting License and Upland Game Bird Validations here.
Once you have your hunting license, you must purchase or otherwise acquire your own shotgun and ammunition. We will link participants with our hunting mentor to assist you in making your selection.
On Friday, November 12th, we will establish our group camp outside of Bakersfield, California. We will spend this day getting to know one another and our firearms, taking the time to learn how to clean, care for, and fire our weapons.
Saturday November 13th is our hunting day. We will fan out after the predawn prayer to begin our search for dove. With God’s permission, we will break midday to learn how to gut and clean our catch as we regroup and begin our preparations for a second evening hunt, possibly for quail.
We’ll continue hunting through Sunday and break camp on Monday, November 15th, circling up to reflect and share gratitude for our time together, the skills acquired, and the abundance of God’s provision.
Registered participants will receive a gear and supply list.
COVID-19: We are committed to keeping all participants healthy through smaller groups and the implementation of rigorous medical pre-screening, including a negative COVID test within the 72 hours prior to our initial gathering day. Once gathered, social distancing and the wearing of masks will neither be enforced nor discouraged.
There are only five spots available.
Book your hunt with a 50% deposit ($150) that is fully refundable up to 60 days prior to our hunt (refund deadline Tuesday 9/14/2021).
