The new moon of Sha’ban approaches, and Dust and Tribe is calling out to women everywhere.
Deep within Death Valley, in the desert once known to the indigenous people as Tümpisa for the rich deposits of red ochre found there, an oasis beckons. This is the land of the Pa Niwintsi, the “water people” and the namesake of the Panamint Springs area where you will set up camp with your sisters for three nights and three days of reverent adventure.
Discover waterfalls and breathtaking vistas that change color with the movement of the sun. Witness dark, bejewelled skies, the like of which you can scarcely imagine. Explore abandoned settlements and the ruined operations of foolish men who once tried to tame the wilderness. Learn from their folly and recognize in the vast and undulating landscape the majesty and rigor of our Creator.
You and your fellow nomads will gather on Friday evening, binding together in clans of four, each woman assuming a critical role on behalf of all. Coyote, Spoon Keeper, Sage Burner, and Tale Weaver- clan work is how you will reveal the hidden treasures each of you bring to the desert. For all the awe the landscape offers, there is nothing so magnificent as the heart of a believer witnessing therein the Hand of God.
The Earthblood Gathering is an homage to the people who saw in the abundant red ochre of Tümpisa the very heart of creation. It is an invitation to find God in the wild and to nurture the relationships that will bring us ever closer to the Divine.
COVID-19: We are committed to keeping all participants healthy through smaller groups and the implementation of rigorous medical pre-screening. Once gathered, social distancing and the wearing of masks will neither be enforced nor discouraged.
Tents, sleep kits (sleeping bag and pad), and halal meals provided.
Transportation is not included. Carpooling is encouraged and Dust and Tribe will assist in coordinating this with registered participants, insha Allah.
