Established in 2012, we are proud of our legacy as North America’s original Muslim Adventure Community.

We’ve put out the call for 10 years, inviting men, women, and families to join us outside where we could get to know one another as we camped, hiked, backpacked, kayaked, climbed, road-tripped, surfed, and searched the skies each month for the new moon. In order to stay connected between adventures, we created opportunities to bond virtually over books, whether reputed works of literature or sacred texts.

We believe in the unique quality of the wilderness to inspire reflection and contemplation. In those landscapes not yet cultivated to serve human interest, we recognize an invitation to consider our place in the larger web of life. In the vulnerability and uncertainty that we experience away from our homes and the familiar byways of our developed neighborhoods, we recognize an invitation to refine our trust and humility before forces that are so obviously greater than ourselves.

This is how we approach God. Excited by what we have learned and discovered along the way, we have spent the last decade inviting others to do the same. The wilderness teaches, we believe. Or more accurately, the wilderness mediates, bringing us into an immediate understanding of the miraculous tensions that balance the universe. We cannot help but to see God’s Hand in this.

We seek to deepen our understanding of what is meant by Islam as the din al-fitra, the Natural Way. To this end we have prayed and worked toward establishing a rural center where we might expand our work and explorations to refine our alignment with uninterpreted wilderness. Through God’s help and permission, we are now poised to take this next step.

Over the coming months, Dust and Tribe operations will be relocating to a parcel of forested acreage roughly 20 minutes northeast of Placerville, California. Not only does this give us near immediate access to several hiking, climbing, camping, and rafting experiences, this location will also put us 1-3 hours from a number of our favorite adventure settings including Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Mammoth Lakes, Point Reyes, and the Emigrant Wilderness. In addition, the acreage allows for in-house workshops and hospitality offerings that have long been on the D&T to-do list and can finally be realized, insha Allah.

We are calling the acreage D&T Camp One.

We are also calling the acreage home. This is land where we will live and work. This is land where we intend to host you, your families and ours, for years to come, God willing.

It has been our distinct pleasure to engage primarily with the Southern California Muslim community, and we hope to continue serving the area even as we get to know our new neighbors up north, insha Allah. We are learning through this development that there is nothing to lose by holding fast to a good intention, dreaming big, and inviting others to do the same.

Al-hamdu lillah wa shukr lillah, we’ve wrapped up enrollment for our remaining 2022 adventures. Settling takes time and we anticipate a late start with our 2023 offerings, but perhaps through the blessings of your continued prayers and support we’ll all see each other sooner rather than later.
